Nahal Katlav

Hiking

The Route:
Starting point: At the "BarBahar" parking lot, on the right is a wide dirt path marked with black.
After about 100m you can see on the right, a trail marked with red, turn and go down the scenic path among the trees overlooking the surrounding area, connect to the black markers and go down to Ein Giora.
From there continue this marking and descend to the riverbed.
You will see many Arbutus trees in the area and seasonal flowers.
Past the Ein Katlav Dam and finish at the Bar Giora Railway Station.
Over a small bridge at Nahal Sorek, where sewage flows, and you will find your car.

Less than 100 meters away, you arrive at a rest stop under the shadow of an oak tree.

On the way to Ein Giora: Continue on a dirt path leading to the spring, a storage pool and the remains of an ancient farm.
In recent years the spring is dry, one can only imagine how the place looked when the pool was filled with water.

We enter the thicket of the grove: descend towards Nahal Katlav, on a steep descent, through a Mediterranean grove, where, among other things, Arbutus trees.

Walking through the riverbed: Walking through the riverbed, where you can see a number of small pools called Ein Ketlav, you walk until you reach a large water pipe. You continue to the old building of a Turkish train station that ran on the Jaffa-Jerusalem line.

Bar Giora Railway Station: In 1892 a Turkish railway was inaugurated from Jaffa to Jerusalem. This was part of tremendous development throughout the Land of Israel, and Jerusalem in particular.
At the train station, trains were stopped to cool the steam engines that drove the train, with the spring water therein.

Arriving at the finish: Walk until you reach the bridge that runs over Nahal Sorek and connects to a wide dirt path - this is where the track ends.
