Muhraqa

The Muhraqa on Mount Carmel, which means "burned place," is the traditional site where Elijah faced off against the prophets of Baal and God sent down fire from Heaven. The story is revealed from the roof of the Carmelite Monastery or along Carmel's hiking routes: limestone outcroppings overgrown with lichen, black as soot from heavenly fire; the Mediterranean to the west, where Elijah's servant saw a rain cloud signaling God's blessing. To the northeast is the Kishon Brook, winding through the Jezreel Valley, also known as the Valley of Armageddon, where Baal's prophets met their end.
