Qumran Park

Archaeology and History

Qumran, overlooking the Dead Sea, is where the Dead Sea Scrolls, among which are the oldest biblical books ever found, were discovered.

The dining hall, ritual bath and other finds recall the Essenes, who sought purity in the desert.

The visitors center, designed like Qumran's ancient buildings, shows an exciting film linking the landscape with its people, recalling that John the Baptist may have lived here.

A dramatic view of the cave where most of the Dead Sea Scrolls were found whets your appetite to view the scrolls at the Israel Museums Shrine of the Book in Jerusalem.
