Euthymius Monastery

Archaeology and History

The ruins of this monastery (Laura) tell the story of Judean Desert nuns of the Byzantine era.

This spacious compound comprises an entrance gate, a courtyard, a burial structure (crypta), hermits' cells, a chapel, a hostel, and aqueducts.

Visitors are advised to take a panoramic view of the Judean Desert Mountains from the shaded observation point, located next to a floor mosaic with geometrical patters.

The compound further contains a huge water reservoir that served the residents. Groups of 20 people or more should book in advance (visit our site); guided tours are available for a fee.
